Where the chlorine comes from
Municipal water systems add chlorine (and increasingly chloramine) to disinfect water as it travels through miles of pipe to your home. It's effective for the utility — but by the time it reaches your tap, you're drinking and showering in it. Chloramine is harder to remove than chlorine, which is why the right filter matters.
